Southern Rock Seafood is nuzzled in a peaceful, leafy corner of Bangsar offering an Al fresco dining, private feasting, and an open oyster bar and kitchen, which well known for the best and freshest Oyster in KL. Hailing from Negros, an Island in the Philippines where seafood is rich and abundant. I was thrilled to sampled Southern Rock Seafood, mainly for the premium Oysters!
The vintage fish traps and weavings softly glowing pendant lights welcomed us. The interior screams blue sea vibes with its navy blue table resembles of pure Grecian style and a coastal wave from the whitewashed wooden wall down to the terrazzo floor. Posh casual dining with elegant flair.
We started off with Wine Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, Martini and Irish Mix Dozen (RM 158), in 3 different varieties and sizes: Tragheanna Bay, Irish Premium and Gallagher Special. The Oysters on the plate with ice and lemon was beautifully presented. The oysters were served fresh from smaller suave and creamy 18-month old Tragheanna Bay to the 3 year old Irish Premium with a saline flavor, and the star of the night, which is the 4-year-old super delish Gallagher’s Special! We sampled them both raw and with a spritz of lemon. It brings back hometown memories where we eat raw oysters and instead of lemon, we soaked in a spiced vinegar we call “Sinamak”. Regardless of how you eat oysters, Southern Rock Seafood is the best way to go especially if you’re a fan of oysters.
We then devoured into their exquisite Canapé Platter (24/44). Four of Southern Rocks Best Canapé: Smoked Ocean trout & Marinated goat cheese, Blue Mussel Salsa, Lobster Bisque Soup and Smoked Mackerel Pate. Shall I call it, fantastic four? Every piece of it was utterly delicious! It vanished on the wooden plate for minutes!
Next on the line was Grilled Sardines (RM20) in gremolata oil. The zest flavor from the gremolata and the saltiness from the sardines balance the tang. It also smells incredibly fresh.
Our next seafood delight was Australian Blue Mussels Meuniere (400gm Pot for RM56 and 1kg pot for RM110) cooked in a dry wine white. This classic dish best consumed when hot. The sauce is appetizingly rich in taste. Hands down to this soup! I hardly can get any good mussels in groceries with these very fresh ones. Probably one of the best Mussels I’ve ever tasted. Southern Rock Seafood said that they used to have a bad rating for their Mussels and since then they wanted to deliver the fresh mussels, too! I admire restaurants that take good criticism and do their best to improve their product quality. Hats off!
Talking about quality product, we also get to taste Bertha Roasted Tiger Prawns (RM 48), in garlic butter recipe. Amazingly for garlic lovers like me, the tiger prawns fresh and in good shape perfectly gobbled with a crusty baguette to mop up all the delightful juices!
As for the mains, we had Fresh Fish & Chips Cod with Mushy Peas (23/25), British meal that is enjoyable. Can’t go wrong with fish and chips accompanied with a bottle of beer. Southern Rock Seafood host live band music, too! Once RMCO is lifted, you can surely look forward to this.
Another awesome Fish treat was the Grilled Red Snapper (RM 58), with Roasted Vegetables and Sautee Spinach. The broccoli, baby potatoes, cauliflower, spinach and snapper are absolutely my kind of meal. It’s healthy, delicious and it looks absolutely just beautiful.
We also indulge in Wild Caught Lemon Sole Meuniere (RM 68). Climaxes the humble fresh flavors of fresh fish, butter and lemon. The potatoes were crunchy and the asparagus on top taste undeniably garden-fresh. The capers relish a lemony, olivey and salty flavor that equalizes everything.
We got no room for desserts, but we will surely be back for fresh seafood. We can’t wait to tell our friends for this incredible fresh seafood in town. Tell your friends, too!
