There is no better way to explore Ljubljana than the Ljubljana card. Sure, Ljubljana is a small city in Europe, but the city is no shortage of places to see, where to eat and where to stay. On our recent visit to Ljubljana, we wanted to experience the city in a comfortable way and enjoyed the benefits by getting a 72-hour Ljubljana card.
Let me show you why this card is a must-have when in Ljubljana!
Guided Tour of Ljubljana
Joining the guided walking tour and get to learn a little about Ljubljana myths and history is the best way to discover the city. Our tour starts in front of the town hall, sampled Slovenian local Sausages and walnut bread, wander through the historical city, which includes learning about the famous work of architect Joze Plecnik.
We continued to explore the well-known triple bridge and the Franciscan church also called the baroque pink church that dominates the Preseren Square. We also ventured the iconic Dragon Bridge, which plays an important figure in fact the symbol of Slovenia. It has been said that the Dragons are protecting the city and the two dragon statues on the bridge are indeed, ferocious!
We also walked through bunch of interesting cafes and restaurants and our guide suggested to try a horse burger. Moreover, we sauntered through Central Market, a good spot to pick up fresh fruits, flowers, and some local snacks. We crossed yet another lovelocks at Butchers bridge and ended our tour at Ljubljana Castle.
Free Funicular Ride to Ljubljana Castle and Outlook Tower
One of the advantages of having a Ljubljana Card is a free Funicular ride to the castle. With this in mind, this a great value especially if you are trying to squeeze in as much as attractions as possible. The castle is not only the best place to get a view of the city, but as well as the Outlook Tower. A virtual castle audio-visual representation is quiet interesting! I hauled myself up to the top of the viewing tower from a spiral staircase and the panoramic view is 100% picturesque!
Free ride on Ljubljana Tourist Boat
Seeing the city in a different perspective is from the Ljubljana Tourist Boat. We took a trip on this river cruise on a golden hour time. Sunset boat cruise is a perfect way and the most romantic time of the day to explore with your partner. We meandered our way through the fairy-tale like canal crossing through numerous bridges and admiring the autumn vibe from a new angle whilst enjoying the beautiful sunset.
Free Four Hour Bike and explore the city through two wheels!
Another great way to see the city is through cycling! The tourist office provide bike rental for two hours €2.00 or €8.00 for a full day. You’re in luck if you get yourself a Ljubljana Card ‘cause you will be able to hire a bike for up to four hours for free!
Free Admission to the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova (MSUM)
If you’re a fan of contemporary art, then this is for you. It’s also free entrance by just showing your Ljubljana card and don’t forget to head over to Metelkova Street art if you’re up for some peculiar graffiti’s.
Unlimited Bus Ride and explore different side of Ljubljana
Unlimited bus ride sounds like fun, with Ljubljana card you can just tapped your card to registered and you’re in! I explored the urban street art of Metelkova. This is not your usual neighborhood as it has it’s own feel with very interesting graffiti on the walls. If you like quirky places, then it’s just a station and a bus ride away. Take busses that stops nearby: Bus: 2, 27, 29.
Free Bus TO/From Airport
If you’re arriving by plane, you can get a free return trip from airport! This is super convenient and I think a hassle free way of reaching Ljubljana! One of our Favorite city free cars is Kavalir, it’s a small electric powered vehicle that will take you around the city. It’s your best friend especially if you get lost, simply hail Kavalir and the driver will take you to your destination, for FREE! Also, the Kavalir stop us to nearby BUS station, it helped us a lot especially from walking to the bus station with our entire luggage. Simply amazing!
Free Admissions to Museums
Are you a museum buffs or just simply love checking out Museums, then this card is just perfect for you. Your Ljulbjana card will take you to Museums such as the Musuems of architecture of designs, City Museum of Ljubljana, The Slovene Ethnographic Museum, Museum of Slovenia, The Slovenian Museum of Natural history and even Plecnik House!

There’s a free one-hour wifi per day in Ljubljana, however if you are using Ljubljana card, you can get enjoy a free 24-hour Wifree Ljubljana Network! This saves you a lot of renting a pocket wifi or getting a roaming SIM card!
