Set just by the magical Ljubljanica River, Vander Urbani Resort has a vanderful urban restaurant that caters Slovenian cuisine where dishes are made in a contemporary style with traditional flair.
Vander Urbani’s cuisine is love at first bite! I fell in love with the freshly cooked Slovenian and Chef Recommendation dishes as well as the beautiful interior and atmosphere that is just by the canal. The moment we arrived, we knew that we are in for some vander-licious delights!
Starters
We started off with Chef Recommendations, Sauteed Prawns (Sotirani gamberi) and Beef Tartare (Goveji Tartar). The Prawns were cooked well and perfectly matched with the grilled zucchini and the spicy sauce. Beef Tartare not only looks appealing, but also taste delicious! The trick with the tartare is to pour some Belica Morgan olive oil (Famous local Slovenian oil) to really fully enjoy the chef’s masterpiece. It was mouth-watering!
As for Traditional Slovenian starters, we sampled Fried Dolenjska Cheese and Dnevna Juha (Daily house Soup). The soup was served hot and enjoyable. A great start for a great meal. The former is crispy and cheesy filling! It was beautiful presented with herb mayonnaise and honey sauce topped with carrots and freshly good-looking watercress. The fried Dolenjska become my fave Slovenian starters in an instant!
Mains
I picked Grilled Salmon Fillet in a heartbeat and Kat selected Buckwheat Risotto, a highly recommended Slovenian Dish. The Buckwheat Risotto is palatable; rich with an earthy flavor and a satisfying chewy texture. The Salmon plate looks vibrant and enticing! I adored how they cooked the Salmon, crunchy skin and soft fillet! The chimichurri sauce along with the green pea puree and miso glazed carrots though is what makes the Salmon stand out!
Desserts
There’s always room for desserts! Our sweet endings include Coconut Panna cotta and Chocolate Trio. The Coconut Panna Cotta tastes quite acquiring probably cause of the basil gel. Not to be brazen here, but the Chocolate Trio is really perfect! It comprises of chef’s selection of three chocolate desserts, Dark, white and just plain chocolate. I best pick would be the white chocolate! What a vanderful pleasure to end our sumptuous dinner.
Rooftop Terrace
Vander Urbani Resort’s Rooftop Terrace is one of the spots that deserve a notable mention. We’re supposed to have our dinner here, however it gets pretty cold in the autumn nights. In summertime though, the rooftop is a haven for parties, events, gatherings, weddings, dinner and guests can enjoy a dip on the pool overlooking the interesting tiled roofs, beautiful canals, grandiose castle and the lovely streets of Ljubljana. A bubble with be perfect to relish and enthralled by the magical sunset from the rooftop! Include that in your list if ever you visit Ljubljana.
And oh, our Vanderland experience wouldn’t be complete without a glass of Medot Brut, an exquisite Slovenian sparkling wine. A great way to cheers for the night!
What a vanderful dinner in a cozy and a perfect chilly autumn night and autumn leaves on the ground of Vanderland!
