For the love of food, we went all the way to Subang Jaya and checked out Comamos at Ruebens – the hottest restaurant serving Tex-Mex, Malaysian, Filipino and even western cuisine right in the business district of SJ.
The Ambiance
The interior is pretty laid back with a bar filled with bottles, warm cozy dining space decorated with hand crafted furnishing, colorful frills and flags hanging from the ceiling, iconic Mexican hat on the wall, and walls painted in red, orange and orange yellow which boons a Mexican mood. In the next few months, the restaurant will bring forth new vibrant plates to add that Mexican look more cohesive. I hope they will provide Mexican hats, too! I bet it’ll be fun.
Tex-Mex Cuisine
Comamos literally means “Let’s Eat” in Spanish and we started off with Tortilla Chips, a quintessential Tex-Mex appetizer served with salsa and fresh guacamole (RM 22.95). The chips were homemade, lighter and crunchy. It’s really best paired with the thick, rich and bustling flavors of guacamole. I could attest that Van adored the fresh guacamole, too!
Next in line was Taquitos de Pollo (RM 16.95 / 6 Pcs), it’s an all time comamos specialty which is basically a chicken wrapped in a corn tortillas in crisp fried. They served it with a salsa vanile and sour cream, which instantly obsessed with. Tacquitos de Pollo rapidly became my favorite snack here! It is so crusty and filling, and satisfying. I could not ask for more.
How could we forget, Nachos Grande (RM 19.95), a classic Tex-Mex all time favorite? We opted for the seasonal minced beef (Spicy) and its pretty much covered with cheese! (If you’re a vegetarian, fret not cause they provide Vegetarian Nachos). I could finish it in an instant, especially when I’m catching up with my favorite TV shows. There may be no good pairing than nachos and beer for a good time snacking at Comamos @ Ruebens whilst watching a football match!
We had Quesadillas con Pollo Asado RM (26.95), a griddled crispy double layered tortillas filled with sweet onions, crunchy red and green peppers, stringy cheese and chicken served with a resfreshing sour cream and pico de gallo. I’m madly in love with quesadillas plus a quesadillas on griddle can be healthy, too! It’s compact, full of flavor and so interesting on once palate! I find it cool that that the quesadillas was served on a faux wood board, it looks really ingenious! It’s huge enough and its perfect for sharing!
We also sampled Beef Enchiladas (RM 22.95), an authentic Mexican staple food. The rolled tortilla is so satisfying and it comes with side veggies, beans and rice! It is so solid; it’ll really make you full to the core. What really makes it so special is that it is pack with all these opulent and complex flavors! I would pick this dish in a heartbeat!
Filipino Cuisine
Tapsilog is our choice here, a Filipino all time favorite breakfast with three main portions, Tapa (beef slices), Sinangag (fried garlic rice) and Itlog (Egg). The beef is tender and tasty. I am not really a fan of beef but when it comes to tapsilog I’m sold probably due to the vinegar. I love dipping the tapa to the vinegar sauce and I won’t mind until my lips go pale. Having Tapsilog at Comamos just made me missed my home country.
I had margarita and beer for Van to finished it off with some booze. We left Comamos at Ruebens with stomachs filled with delicious food, deep meaningful conversations and just purely bliss.
