One thing I can’t get by the day without is COFFEE.
My love affair with coffee started 14 years ago in the Philippines when I worked as a Barista in a well-known International coffee company. It might be a long time ago, but my love for coffee stays the same, it never changes the way I sip a cup of Coffee say in a cute Café in Paris, a shot of espresso in Venice, or even just a new Coffee shop in KL watching people go by in the busy street of Bukit Bintang. Just like beer, I made it to a point to try a local coffee in each country I visits. Stay in a cosy coffee shop for hours tasting how distinctive their coffee is.
Ever since the lockdown started, I get weary of the instant coffee at home. My Café Hopping in KL halted during MCO. I did a make over on my place and put up a mini Coffee bar. Mister Coffee was right on time after my personal café was set up. My obsession for coffee is back, I’ve been craving for real coffee and I also thought I need to wake up the inner barista in me, this time practicing latte art.
I have tried couple of coffee beans from the supermarket, however one of the best local brands I have tried that I would like to share is the Mister Coffee. Mister Coffee began in 1982 tracing the best coffee beans from around the world. Its just not about sourcing on more than 25 countries, but the quality of beans that has been through rigorous method. What made them stand out is the exceptional coffee blends and roast profiles that showcase the sweet spot from their signature blend. Speaking of Signature blends, I sampled 6 different kinds of Signature blends.
Signature blends with an Arabica and Robusta bean types are Espresso Classic, Espresso Pearl, Espresso Gold, and Espresso bar. The 100% Arabica are Espresso Royal and Espresso Super Bar. My best pick would be the Espresso Classic due to its full-bodied, strong aftertaste. The packet has a label that says that its creamy chocolate flavour is perfect when mixed with milk, it just is. Also, I love the classic espresso shot too (no milk) which I badly need to beat my Monday blues. Surprisingly, it didn’t disappoint me.
On the 100% Arabica category, my favourite is the Espresso Super Bar. I don’t know it reminds me of Kenya Coffee due to its citrusy and aromatic flavour. Strong overtones of berry and fruit flavors produces a desirable flavour on my tongue! Additionally, the delightful aroma gets through my mind that it lurks me to pick it almost every day.
The Espresso Pearl on the other hand, brings a totally different palate experience. Fresh Tobacco, deep, rich and intense flavour. It’s one of those days I would sit through on a boring skype meetings. Cigar hints from the beans just take me back to nostalgic office breaks, those smokers’ days (Quit Smoking since MCO). It’s probably why coffee and cigarettes are match made in heaven. Coffee in Tobacco notes sounds like charismatic to me and it has been known to be found in many coffees around the world.
Something distinguished to be mentioned from the Arabica and Robusta Blend is the Espresso Gold. It lingers Latin America coffee, probably because of its nutty flavour. High with acidity and sweetness with a hint of malt and cocoa powder which is great for milk. It would bring out the creaminess and almost identical to toast and caramelly like to me.
Espresso Royal reminds me of African Coffee like a combination of Ethiopia Coffee from the floral notes and the fruity flavour that is usually from Kenya. I’m quite intrigue with the blend of this coffee. Rich Chocolatey profile and that touch of little floral brings out complexity.
Last but not the least is the Espresso Bar typically with aromas of dried fruit. Smooth, light and with a syrupy mouthfeel. Something fruity for coffee afficionados.
Mister Coffee also offers Bagbrew, an outstanding remedy for coffee lovers who prefer convenience of crafting coffee without sacrificing quality. It comes in different types such as Colombia Dark Roast, Italian Style Dark Roast, and Liberica Dark Roast. It allows one to just get the bag from the sachet, pour a hot water over the coffee bag, brew for about 3-4 mins, add milk or sugar depending on your liking and voila, Coffee in a heartbeat!
Hand-crafted nature beans, bringing out an array of notes that is exciting to Coffee drinkers out there. Mister Coffee has its characteristic that I would say alluring, a Complete Coffee Company that has full of essential qualities a coffee must have. A noteworthy coffee too good not to share. I bet their Country Series Specialty Coffee must be heaven! Can’t wait to try those on my coffee machine.
Here’s to one cup at a time…
