The Backroom Coffee is the new specialty coffee café at the Heritage the Row KL. The café interior incorporates industrial look with its retro style varnish long fixture spotlights, roofed in steel, and coal black wooden chairs and tables. Monochrome dominates the café.
The Backroom café is relatively new in the coffee scene in Chow Kit, but the distinctiveness in terms of the coffee experience will certainly make them hit big time. Their ID Coffee is what makes them exceptional from the rest of the cafes.
I had Soft-Shell Crab Sourdough – homemade teriyaki mayo sauce, deep fried soft-shell crab and scrambled egg. It was satisfying. As much as I would love to get myself a filter coffee, however I’ve been having drips these past few days, I opted for Café Latte. Choices for coffee beans would be Brazil Santos which has a nutty milky chocolatey butterscotch notes and Ethiopia Bombe Gatta G1 for a lovely floral berries’ sweetness quality. Either way, both beans are a delightful pick to start the day.
The menu includes series of Rice Bowl and Sourdough mainly integrating Japanese flavors. Filter Coffee fanatics would have options for Ethiopia Dukamo Assafa G1, Kenya Nyeri Gatomboya AA Top, and Peru Cajamarca Finca El Laurel. Interesting Series that would make me revisit is the Experiment Series. I can’t believe I didn’t notice that earlier. Expresso Tonie, and Soul Lab would be fascinating. They also have Matcha Series for Matcha lovers!
The staff are very focused and accommodating. They never failed to fill the glass with water and would attend to you right in the moment you need something. I believe staff like that are so rare in the café scene in KL. I love how they treat visitors.
Would swing by for one of their experiment series and prolly for Filter Coffee.
