The Majapahit Restaurant & Bar is an all-new empire of Southeast Asian Cuisine inspired by the powerful kingdom of Majapahit, the greatest empire in the history of Southeast Asia. The concept of the restaurant is to bring all Southeast Asian flavors in one roof backed up by a bar that serves creative and tasty cocktails.
We begin our journey to a gastronomical feast and indulge in all the diversity of flavors at Majapahit.
Majapahit Signature Platters
We started off with Curry Galore (RM 54), an umami-filled platter of Thai Red Curry Beef, Thai Green Curry Chicken, Indonesian Squid Curry and Malaysian Prawn Curry served with a side of Chapati bread and Cassava Crackers. The vibrant colors of curry are a feast to my eyes in an instant! Surprisingly, I found that Malaysian curry is well suited for my taste buds most likely because I live in KL and I get accustomed to its richness and thrills of chili flavors. Thai Red Curry was Van’s pick. Indonesian Curry has interesting flavors, too. It has a right amount of fiery and sweetness that adds challenges one’s palate. The platter is perfect for group sharing as it gratifies an all in one kick of flavors.
We devoured on four of The Majapahit’s Signature Satays (RM 84), which consists of Balinese Fish Satay, Malaysian Chicken Satay, Indonesian Beef Satay, and Vietnamese Sugarcane Prawn served with four distinctive dipping sauces. Apparently, I’m a beef snob and the Indonesian beef Satay were indulged by Van. The Vietnamese Sugarcane Prawn was my best pick! I think the concept is absolutely matchless especially the Sugarcane that adds sweetness to the satay. I could finish more of it in a matter of minutes!
Majapahit Signature Veggie
Next on the menu was Thai Stir-Fried Baby Kailan | Pad Ka-na Thai (RM 29). This is one of my favorite dishes. The prawn, garlic and the oyster sauce taste delicious along with the baby kalian.
Coconut Butter Chicken
Next is Coconut Butter Chicken (RM 25), which consists of Rich Stew of tender chicken pieces, cooked with blend of ground spices, and coconut milk. I personally love this dish, it reminds me so much of one of my late grandmother’s cooking.
Soup
Famous Spicy Seafood Tom Yam was served with sea bass, squid, and prawns on black hot pot. The aroma exudes freshness from the fragrance herbs of lemon grass, and Kaffir lime leaves. Ahh, the Smell was absolutely haven! I was expecting a little spiciness from the original Thai Tom Yam and I underestimate it. The Tom yam caught me by surprise, boy; it was really hot and Spicy to the core!
Signature Cocktails Series
We finished with 10 Cocktails! Yes, you heard it right, 10! Majapahit created with some new creative cocktails. They say picture paints a thousand words. Let me show you how creative they are on making their craft. My favorite cocktail would be ASAP. So inventive, citrusy and a glass handle that can be use as a straw.
I could not believe that what I’ve been missing considering that the restaurant is just a few walks from where I work. Relishing all the good treats brings nostalgia to my Southeast Asia Backpacking memory lane.
