1969 Blue Sky Hotel is the main reason why I never consider a day tour in Taichung. I love hotels that tells a story and it’s gorgeous art deco is one thing I would never want to miss.
The wall of luggages from all over the world stunned me the moment we entered the hotel. The impressive wall is packed with a 198 vintage suitcases. Each luggages conveys an adventure tale from different people with luggage tags written in pretty much all sort of languages from around the globe. Striking lights from the huge polished crystal chandelier illuminates the lobby. The 1969 Blue Sky Hotel sure know how to impressed guests.
“Ni Hao” the staff greeted us warmly and we responded back with a “Ni Hao”, not even knowing we pronounced it right. The check in process was smooth and fast. I was fascinated how they turned the antique steam boiler into a front desk and an Electrical control panel into a wall with clocks on it. What a quirky concept!
The room has a trendy New York vibe with a balcony overlooking the city. The room includes a generous king sized bed, a 43-inch LCD , Refrigerator, Wifi, Kettle, a study table with full of facilities like Nespresso machine, some twinning teas, a bathroom with an automatic toilet bidet, a shower with a fair amount of water pressure. The bathroom is also equipped with Verbana shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, thick towels, a cleaning kit placed inside a puzzle package and colorful classic patterns Majolica tiles.
I loved how cosy the bed was, It rained that night and I slept like a baby.
The next morning, we started our day with a hearty breakfast located on the 3rd floor Blue Sky Restaurant. They have a wide selection of food ranging from Chinese, Taiwanese to Western cuisine. I had a sesame chicken and some salad vegetables that were fresh and crunchy. My sister was enjoying her usual breakfast of breads, scrambled egg, and Mee hoon.
We choose to sit near the french window to get a view of the streets while having a sumptuous meal. The streets were wet from last night’s pouring rain, it gave a little drama to the scene.
We explored the hotel and we found a mezzanine at the 2nd floor where the Blue Sky Lounge is located. The room takes us back in time of nostalgic ancient space with a mixture of modernity. I was shocked and impressed that a Jukebox is still functional. We played a couple of old songs and it was indeed, relaxing. The room also has some oil paintings crafted by local artists. Its amazing how the hotel support such creative arts.
The 1969 Blue Sky Hotel location is great as it is strategically walking distance from Taichung Main Station. It is very well conveniently situated to popular local spots like Miyahara, Chung Hua Night Market, Taichung Park, Yizhong Street Night Market, and it is just right next to a famous local bakery and a noodle shop that serve luscious pork chop noodle soup.
It seems like I was transported back in time to romantic and nostalgic 1969. I am so lucky to stay in such an elegant hotel. We left our luggage tags in one of the vintage suitcases just like the most of the guests that stayed there. We sure had some wonderful memories in Taichung, but we are not leaving it here, we will be taking it with us forever and until then, we will come back and make more new memories.
