Sapore introduces an Italian Tradition called Aperitivo, which happens every last Saturday of the month. Aperitivo is an Italian version of Happy Hour and it’s not just about drinking an alcoholic beverage before meal, but rather a ritual of sitting together, enjoying a good Spanish Sangria or a glass of wine and some cold cut charcuterie with friends and family.
Sapore is an Italian Spanish Restaurant nestled in the row of hip restaurants in Jalan Ampang with a cozy ambiance serving a mix of Italian and Spanish Flavor. Who doesn’t love this fusion? I love Italian food for a good reason that every dish comes with wine and Spanish food for delicious Paella and creative hot and cold tapas. We got ourselves signed up for Sat Aperitivo. After all, KL is all about enjoying “Makan” on weekends especially for expats like us who loves to explore food. It’s something we look forward to after hard days work.
We started off with some artistic appetizers that lined up at the bar. The savory selection consists of fresh red tomatoes, bowl of olives, Spanish Tortillas, Green Veggies, roasted Carrots, tasty grilled cucumbers and eggplants, dill pickles, and a basket of focaccia. Looking at the appetizers, I knew from then that we were in for a real treat!
I admired the savories that inaudibly looking back at me, enticing my taste buds. I was caught between white wine and Spanish sangria, but finally gave in to the latter. So refreshing and fruity!
The cold cut charcuterie comes with chorizo paprika salami, cooked ham, and Salchichon Pork Salami with some pickles, olives and Italian rockets on top. It was my favorite! Not only that it looks presentably creative and gorgeous on a chop board, it tasted delightful, too! Even Van overly loved it! Delizioso! No wonder, the charcuterie platter meats vanished in a matter of seconds.
For the mains, we had Pork shoulder with mashed potato that comes with the Aperitivo set. The meat is well cooked and tender, not to mention beautifully presented. The mashed potato made me full to the core. I under estimate its lushness. Too much of it taste a little boring so I paired it with olives. I‘m obsessed with olives! I can’t remember how many olives I ate.
Next on the course was seafood paella. I’m a fan of paella and I think I consumed a lot of paella in my hometown back in the day. The Paella however looked more like a risotto. Nevertheless, the shrimps tasted good.
I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. The space is just enough and the warm tones and lighting gave a relaxing vibe. They also put some candles on the table making it a little romantic. I adored the paintings, quotes frames and photo images on the wall. Simple, yet artsy and eye-catching especially the quotes were all good reads.
Sapore have variety of wine collections displayed on the wine rack. I was pretty enthralled on the shelf full of good wines. Moreover, The menu has so much selection of Italian and Spanish tapas that we would love to try one day especially the suckling pig porchetta, cheese board, hot and cold tapas, and some wine tasting.
We finished off with a lovely tiramisu with coffee and Kahlua dessert. It was exquisitely presented on a wood board along with some strawberries. I loved the texture with its rich coffee flavor and the Kahlua makes it tastier.
Italian Chef Fabio came to our table to check if the food was to our liking. Overall, It was fantastic! I’m always impressed with chefs who took time to see if the dishes were satisfactory considering how busy these folks were. Most of the staff was Filipinos and from time to time, Jennifer come to us to explain a little bit about the food. I’m stoked with her energetic vibe.
Sapore is a pretty hidden gem near my place, however a little bit far from Van. Sure, it’s worth his time coming down to Ampang for a lovely Aperitivo. It’s definitely good for sharing.
I can’t believe I haven’t been to Italy and Spain, yet! Sapore definitely made me feel like I was in Italy and Spain at the same time through their authentic cuisine.
Alla prossima, Sapore!
