If you’re thinking of visiting South Africa it can be quite hard to decide exactly where to go, especially when there’s so much choice! Each place offers something different, whether you’re interested in culture, animals or views. Hopefully, however, this post will help you decide – there really is no wrong answer! Here are four places you need to visit in South Africa.
Zimbabwe
If you’re heading to Zimbabwe one thing you have to go and see is Victoria Falls, which spans over Zimbabwe and Zambia. It’s the largest waterfall in the world and offers an absolutely breathtaking view. There are a lot of animals to spot in the area too, so it’s great for a safari, and if you’re a fan of snakes the Victoria Falls Snake Park is a must-visit. Enjoy the views with a long walk around the woodlands and national parks such as Matobo National Park and Mana Pools National Park.
Kruger National Park
There’s a reason that Kruger National Park is so popular for safaris. At almost 20,000 sq km of land, you’ll find a plethora of animals from the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, and buffalo) to over 500 species of bird.
Enjoy the stunning views as you embark on your safari, either as a self-drive adventure or with an expert who can help you find the best places to spot these amazing animals. Be sure to take lots of pictures to show your friends and family when you get home, as they will hardly believe how close you were able to get to such creatures.
Johannesburg
There’s lots of things to do in Johannesburg and the locals love to party. There are plenty of beerhouses and quirky cocktail bars in the area, and don’t miss out on shopping at the rooftop Market Johannesburg. Find out more about the history of the area at the Apartheid Museum and the Cradle of Humankind. For families, the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre is a great way to spend a day or go bargain hunting at Oriental Plaza.
Cape Town
One of the best things to do in Cape Town is to road trip along the Cape Peninsula, where you will be able to stop off at a variety of attractions. Enjoy the picturesque Llandudno Beach and feed the seals at Hout Bay Harbour, which used to be a pirate’s cove.
One thing every animal lover must do is head to Simon’s Town to see the Penguins on Boulders Beach. If you’re a fan of hiking, biking or climbing, Table Mountain National Park is a must-visit. Alternatively, enjoy the breathtaking view from Cape of Good Hope.
Maybe this list has made it even harder to choose where to go, as each place has so many amazing things to see and do. Perhaps it’s really a case of where to go first… If you’re looking for animals, a safari in Kruger National Park would be great, or for a more cosmopolitan feel, head to Johannesburg.
