What thrilling way to enjoy picnic than a gourmet afternoon tea by the river at Tiarasa Escapes? The resort set up a Boho inspired decadent tea set of Malaysian delights such as Kuih Kuih, Ondeh Ondeh, Tart, Samosa, Dim sum and Nasi Lemak Sushi which pretty much bring a twist in our kampung favorites!
Tiarasa Escape’s Bohemian themed picnic is prolly the most amazing outdoor afternoon tea themed I ever had in Malaysia. It includes a styled low-level picnic table, cushions, picnic baskets and it wouldn’t be Boho without the teepee! Sitting cross-legged on the picnic mat while sipping a fresh pot of earl grey in the rainforest is simply one of the best things to do after lockdown has been lifted. Aside from the local glees, the package comprises of Mee Goreng crammed in a customized Tiarasa Escape flamboyant paper.

We were in luck that the weather cooperated. It was a beautiful day, right under the shaded tree and by the scenic riverside is where we had our tranquil moment. The colorful Ondeh Ondeh gives vibrant to the overall tea tier. When I moved to Malaysia, I was so shaken by this rice balls because it spurts a sweet liquid which is actually a liquid palm sugar. This little traditional rice cake’s cleverness to surprise first timers never failed to impress one’s taste buds! Glad that the one served at the picnic was not too sweet!
I adore sampling local treats; the Samosa surprisingly taste good, filled with rich fillings! The only thing I need to battle with is that it’s a bit oily, but nevertheless, I got addicted to it! I can’t say no to samosa! Dim Sum is another old school delight that is seamless for the afternoon tea. The sio mai texture is springy, a mark of a decent dim sum. I am always so judgmental about cekodok pisang probably because I am not a fan of banana. Cyril urged me to give it try and I would say I judge it wrongly. I would never look cekodok pisang the same way ever again. No wonder why it’s one of Malaysia’s best-loved traditional snacks.
The tea that was served is Earl Grey. There were no other choices. I bet it would great if Tiarasa Escape can provide variety of afternoon tea flavor for guests. I am a tea lover, in fact, obsessed with it, however there are certain days where I’m in a mood for different flavor. Nevertheless, Earl Grey is a great choice for tea blend that gives it a unique and distinctive taste from the rest.
The brownies and tart were average, but what stands out the most is the Nasi Lemak Sushi! I can’t stop munching it despite my stomach is full from eating Mee Goreng which is by the way is super addictive! Cyril mentioned that I need to stop focusing on mee goreng because I won’t be able to enjoy the rest! Its just that Mee Goreng is, well Mee Goreng! I’m infatuated with its taste!
The Nasi Lemak Sushi is by the way the star of the afternoon tea. This miniature version of our beloved local food taste good as it looks! It such a great concept and fusion. How lovely it is that one can chomp on Nasi Lemak as a finger food? Sublime!
Our Gourmet afternoon tea by the river at Tiarasa Escape is not only satisfying and picturesque but also memorable.
