Wisana Village is a stylish traditional Malay-style resort situated in Teluk Kalong Kecil, one of the most beautiful beaches of Redang. Tucked away from the usual long beach where famous resorts are located, Wisana Village is secluded yet accessible. Set against the jaw-dropping sandbar of Kerangga Island and a picturesque backdrop of a forested hill. The Pristine white sandy beach, crystal clear blue waters and the tranquility of the place will make you feel like you have your own private little island. It’s exotic and charming resort makes it ideal for a picture-perfect paradise getaway.
Deluxe Chalet Beach Front Room
The Village comprises of only 10 rooms which make it uncrowded and quiet. We stayed in a stand-alone private Deluxe Chalet beach front room. Our room is a Malay-style wooden chalet. The room is equipped with king-sized bed, ceiling fan, air-conditioning, dressing table, wooden wardrobe, air conditioned, attached bathroom with hot shower facilities, towels and toiletries, laundry basket and a terrace.
We woke up each day with an absolute paradise view from our room. Imagine waking up hearing the waves of the ocean and the perfect summer breeze. The great news is that all the rooms are facing the sea. It’s an oasis of serenity and tropical haven.
I am in love with our room. From the comfortable bed to the clean and spacious bathroom, relaxing balcony with chic rattan furniture to the sliding glass door with the view of the turquoise sea. It is such an idyllic retreat!
The Surroundings
Wisana’s utmost charm is its powdery white sand and stunning azure beach. Unspoilt seashore with hammocks hanging in between coconut trees, wooden beach tables and chairs for relaxation and just simply bask under the sun with your favourite cocktail or beer (from Long beach) or get a perfect tan line.
The beach itself is small (Kecil in Malay) which you can literally walk completely within minutes. I love the moment where you have your own little abode in such a private beach. The beach is non-commercialize and has the perfect shoreline, fine white sand, and sunrise to top it off.
The Lobby
The resort’s lobby is modest and has an artistically cool Malaysian style home beach. The flamboyant lounge consists of flat screen TV, board games, card games, books, white sofas, cozy pillows and bean bag chairs. The lounge is a perfect area to enjoy the gorgeous view of the sea, to relish a good book, love your solitude, or just simply having a great conversation with a friend or other guests from different parts of the world.
Kerangga View Café.
One of my favorite parts of the holiday is having a sumptuous authentic meal. The Kerangga View Café is a picture-perfect dining experience. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in a nourishing Malay and western cuisine buffet style. The café is open from 7:30 AM – 11:00 PM and beverage station is available 24 hours a day. The best thing about dining here is that you get a view of the neighboring island of Kerangga.
Activities
My number one recommendation is to visit Kerangga island which is just 5-10 minutes away by boat from the resort. It has a very lovely sand bar. Wisana provides a free boat ride to Kerangga. If you are feeling adventurous, you can swim all the way to Kerangga or you can borrow the kayak and paddle your way to this good-looking island. If you have a love-affair for sandbars like me then this is a must.
Redang island is famous for its aquamarine life. Snorkeling is one of the activities that my local friends suggested. Sea turtle feeding is also highly recommended.
See the neighboring islands. Island hopping is also available here. You can visit the top 3 islands namely Lima, Paku and Kerangga island. You may ask the staff and they will be happy to assist you with beach excursions.
Jungle trekking is one of the things to do in Redang. Good thing is that the jungle trek with a panoramic view of the island is just behind the resort.
Visit Pantai Pasir Panjang. Redang’s long beach is the most well-known beach in Redang. Tons of beach resorts in this area. The beach has lovely beach activities like volleyball, beach soccer or even snorkeling in Tanjung Tengah. It is a commercialized area where convenient stores, souvenir shops are available, you can purchase some beers here and take it to Wisana.
I have low expectations in Redang as it is very famous and crowded but boy, my presumptions changed as soon as I stepped on the white sandy beach of Wisana.
How to get to Wisana Village Redang?
By Air: Airasia flies to Kuala Terengganu from KL daily.
Note: There are two jetties in Kuala Terengganu that will take you to Redang Island, Shahbandar Jetty and Merang Jetty.
From Kuala Terengganu Airport (TGG), you can take a taxi to Merang jetty (the closest from the airport) which will take approximately 30 minutes to reach the jetty. The boat ride from Merang jetty to Wisana will take approximately 45 minutes and the boat fee will cost you RM55.00/1-way. Alternatively, you can provide your flight details to Wisana if you wish us to arrange your airport transfer.
Boat schedule as of October 2016
Merang Jetty – Wisana Village @9.30am, 1.00pm & 3.00pm
Wisana Village – Merang Jetty @9.00am, 11.00am & 1.00pm
By Land: There are bus operators that travel to Kuala Terengganu from KL. I normally book through Easybook.
From the Kuala Terengganu Bus terminal, taking a ferry from Syahbandar jetty would be easier for you. The jetty is located within 5 minutes from bus terminal by taxi. A normal taxi will charge you RM 25.00, I suggest you may use Uber or grab a car since it is cheaper. Upon your arrival at the jetty, you may proceed to Sejahtera Ferry Services counter and ask for Wisana. You may need to pay them directly of RM110.00/adult/2-way for the tickets.
The boat ride will take about 2 hours to Kampung jetty and upon arrival at Kampung jetty, there will be another pickup ferry waiting for you and you need to move to that ferry and ask for Wisana. They will drop you at Wisana Village on their way to Long Beach. This service is complimentary by the ferry company.
Tips:
- The best time to visit Redang Island is between March – October. Please note that Redang is close during the monsoon season which starts from November – February.
- There are no ATM, convenient store, souvenir shops in Wisana. You have to go to Long beach which is about 15 – 20 minutes by boat from the resort and will cost you RM 25 one way.
- WiFi is pretty weak due to the resort’s remote location. If you are using data, it is pretty hard to get a good signal too. Signal is not available in the room, you have to go outside to be able to connect. Who cares about WiFi if you are enjoying your holiday anyway?
- Occasional ants in the bathroom but nothing to be worried about. Don’t panic!
- All rooms in Wisana are facing the sea but I really recommend the Private chalet. It’s all worth it!
