One of the best things to do in Cape Town is to drive along the Cape Peninsula. Road tripping in Cape Peninsula is a must in South Africa. We tried to squeeze in all the attractions we could possibly cover in one day. All we need is a car that will take us through the wonderful sights of Cape Peninsula.
If Seals, Penguins, beaches, baboons, and good old fashioned road trip sounds good to you. Here’s my Quick Guide to driving through Cape Peninsula from Cape Town.
Stop 1: Explore the beautiful Secluded Llandudno Beach
Some people begin their tour at Clifton or Camps bay. Although we passed these two beaches, we started off at Llandudno, a picturesque beach tucked in one of South Africa’s affluent residential suburb. Mainly for one reason, we wanted to get away from the crowd and prefer a quiet, yet gorgeous beach.

Stop 2: Feed the Seals at Hout Bay Harbour
Hout Bay used to be a pirate’s cove. This is now a place where fisherman’s flocked, few restaurants, quaint boardwalk and a Bay Harbour Market showcasing Capetonians’ crafts. We were just initially for sightseeing, however we were lucky to watch and feed some seals in the harbour view. I would recommend visiting this early in the morning to see the seals. Furthermore, you can visit Duiker Island to see the cape Fur Seals Colony.

Stop 3. Chapman’s Peak Drive Scenic Route
Chapman’s Peak Drive is probably the most scenic part of this road trip. This rocky coastal roadway is very well-known and no wonder why even motorists and cyclists take this road to stop by and enjoy the 360 degrees view of the Atlantic Ocean. Pull over, get to the vantage point and be mesmerize with the most beautiful views of Cape Town.
Stop 4: Adore the Stunning White Sandy Beach of Noordhoek
This reminds of me Australian’s coastline. Noordhoek is such a lovely town that offers horseback riding on the sea shores. The beach view with thatched roofs is breathtakingly striking. You’ll surely fall in love with the long white sandy peaceful beach. It is just too beautiful. The restaurants in the Noordhoek Village looks pretty inviting, but my mind was set to dine at Two Oceans Restaurant (Stop 6). You can visit the quaint town though, I’m pretty sure it’ll be worth to dine there, too!
Stop 5: See the Penguins in Boulders beach, Simons Town
Ahhh Penguins! Drive to Boulders Beach in Simons Town just to see the penguins! It is a great opportunity to be close to Penguins! They look so cute and adorable! I mean who doesn’t love penguins?

Stop 6: Lunch at Two Oceans Restaurant Cape Point
I’m sure by this time, your tummy is rumbling! A lunch with a scenic view will definitely please you. Two Oceans Restaurant are known for their seafood, sushi, and panoramic ocean views. We specifically choose to dine here for lunch because of its long held reputation of delicious food, amazing service and fantastic views. Food is slightly expensive as expected, but then again lunch by the ocean is just fabulous!
Stop 7: Hike the old Cape Point Lighthouse
Hike or take the funicular (Like we did) to Cape Point and be impressed with its stunning views. If you’re a fan of trekking, Cape Point is for you! Absolutely exquisite views awaits atop. Collectively, it makes for great photo-ops. The long drive from Cape Town will make it even more worth the trip. You can even spot some baboons. Never ever leave Cape Town without visiting Cape Point. It is so amazing to be in the longest point of South Africa.
Stop 8: Visit where two oceans meet at Cape of Good Hope
There’s a misconception that Cape of Good Hope is the southern tip of Africa. Cape of Good Hope is a must in South Africa. It is where the two oceans meet. You will be impressed of how mythical this place is. Windy, touristy, yet a beautiful headland spot on the Atlantic coast side.
Stop 9: Cape Point Ostrich Farm
We only stopped here due to our curiosity and found that there is an Ostrich Farm. There is an old colonial cottage, shops, restaurant, and some ostrich to watch. There is nothing entertaining here, but if you will be coming from Muizenberg or from Cape Point. This will be a good stop for lunch and some refreshing drinks or grab a souvenir from one of their shops.
Stop 10: Kalk Bay & St James beach in Muizenberg
Visit the Beautiful beach box houses in Muizenberg. Take a walk on the beach, learn to surf or even go to the flea market! A walk through Kalk bay won’t hurt too, a bustling harbour view that is really worth checking out. You can also spot some seals in the harbour.
Stop 11: Have some wine at Old Groot Constantia
Groot Constantia is one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa and it is not too far from Cape Town. Stop by for a glass of wine here. South African wines are one of the best in the world. It cost 95 Rand to get a guided tour to this beautiful old winery and feel the 80’s or 90’s old vibe.
Stop 12: Catch the Sunset in Camps Bay Beach or V&A Waterfront
If you aren’t tired yet, and is hyper like me. You may go to Café Caprice, have some Caipirinhas or Mojitos and watch the sun sets at Camps Bay. Café Caprice is a well-known spot in Cape Town and it is famous for the sundowners. If you think this may be somewhat crowded for you, you can always go to the beach and witness the sunset in such sensational mountain backdrop of apostles.
I can’t believe we covered most of the attractions in the Cape Peninsula. The trip was exhausting and also rewarding. The key here is to wake up and start your tour early. Plan the places that you want to cover. I am not really a fan of tours because it sounds so limited. So, I highly suggest you rent a car and drive through this wonderful sights. Having this road trip playlist, car ride snacks, and the freedom of stopping wherever you want is what road trip is all about.
Cape Town is beautiful and visiting South Africa without the Cape Peninsula is such a missed! Who knows road tripping in Cape Town could be your best road trips.
Roadtrippers, Cape Peninsula is waiting for you!
